5th Annual Bowling Tournament a Huge Success!

Scholarship applications are in, award winners to be announced soon.

Albuquerque, NM - The pins were set up and over and over again they were knocked down. In what turned out our most successful bowling tournament thus far, with nearly fifty bowlers participating, BEE Scholarships was able to successfully raise money for scholarships for students. It was a fun event and prizes were awarded to the winning team, the highest scoring male and female bowlers, and the two highest scoring kids. We were also able to raffle off some amazing prizes. We thank everyone that attended and for those that didn’t attend, we offer a special thanks for donations. Please take a moment to look at some pictures from the bowling tournament below.

Very special thanks to Adrian Montoya, General Manager of Hotel Albuquerque, Mike Sisneros, Vice President of Sales at Admiral Beverage Corp., and Margo Tapia, Associate Broker at R1 New Mexico and Owner of Turquoise Window Real Estate Group. Without the generous donations from these supporters, we would not be able to help the youth of Albuquerque the way we have for the past five years.

Also, we would like to thank Umar Malik, who is a longtime supporter of BEE Scholarships, as well as a local musician and artist. Umar, also known as You I Am, will be releasing a new album titled Runaway, and will be featured at an album launch party on May 10th, taking place at The Outpost. Doors to the event open at 6 PM and the show starts at 7 PM.  Umar has generously offered to donate some of the proceeds to BEE Scholarships to help our efforts in providing scholarships to students. We encourage people to attend the release party and purchase the album to both support a local artist and BEE Scholarships.

Lastly, we have received applications from eager graduating seniors from around the city for both the BEE’s high school scholarship and the Se Vale Soñar laptop scholarship. We are currently in the process of reviewing applications. Scholarship recipients will be notified early May.

Please continue to follow BEE for updates about the scholarships and other news!

The Se Vale Soñar Scholarship is Available to Students!

Scholarships seeks to award laptops to first-generation, Latino/a, low-income students

Albuquerque, NM February 14th, 2019:  Burqueños for Education and Empowerment (BEE) is excited to announce the release of the Se Vale Soñar laptop scholarship. It is the first year BEE Scholarships will be awarding laptops as part of a scholarship.

The Se Vale Soñar scholarship started with an idea from a previous BEE scholarship recipient, Daisy Astorga. Daisy wowed the Scholarship Committee and awarded Daisy one of BEE's inaugural scholarships. Nearly five years later, Daisy continues to develop her passion for education and came up with the idea for the Se Vale Soñar. I decided to create this scholarship because I mentor many students in high school through the college process who do not own a laptop. I, myself, did not have a laptop until my senior year of high school. I have experienced and seen the struggle and challenges that low-income students go through because they cannot afford a laptop in high school and college,” said Daisy. “We want to be able to help students in their journeys to pursue a higher education.”

The goal of the scholarship is to encourage success in college for first generation, Latino/a, low-income high school students in pursuit of a higher education. This scholarship will enable high school students to search and apply for volunteering and internship opportunities. Later on, they will use their laptops to apply to college fly-ins, colleges, and scholarships. The Se Vale Soñar Scholarship will also allow students to do their homework, among other essential things, during college.

To find out more about the Se Vale Soñar scholarship, or learn more about Daisy and her inspiration, please click here. Please direct students to apply for the scholarship by visiting the Se Vale Soñar scholarship application page. “We want to ensure that students in our community can do their homework, network, and apply to scholarships and colleges without their financial status being a burden,” continued Daisy.

BEE Scholarships also wants to remind you that our high scholarship is also available to all graduating students. Please refer students to our application request page by clicking here.

Lastly, BEE Scholarship will be hosting its 5th Annual Bowling Tournament, which will take place Saturday April 6th beginning at 1:00pm. To find out more information on the Tournament, please visit our events page. We hope to see you there!
