BEE Scholarships Announces the “Vales Por Dos” Bilingual Nursing Student Scholarship

Scholarship awards bilingual undergraduate students pursuing nursing degree

BEE Scholarships is thrilled to announce Vales Por Dos, a scholarship for bilingual undergraduate students currently enrolled in, or accepted to, a nursing program.

The idea for the scholarship was presented to BEE by Samantha Alvidrez, a nurse at The University of New Mexico Hospital who stresses both the need for and importance of bilingual nurses.

“As a nurse, I have seen the negative consequences and positive influences of being able to communicate with your patient or their family in their native language,” says Alvidrez.

“I think it’s crucial for us to empower, motivate and support individuals who are fluent in Spanish and English and are interested in pursuing a nursing career,” she continues. “As nurses, we need to do our part in breaking the language barriers and bridging the culture gap in order to better serve our community.”

"This is a great opportunity to help a person that has the same passion of community focus of BEE Scholarships,” says BEE President Matthew Salas. “We are eager and excited to begin this partnership with Samantha and hope it is successful."

BEE will be accepting applications for the Vales Por Dos bilingual nursing student scholarship starting December 18, 2017 through March 1, 2018 but individuals can view eligibility details and submit requests for scholarship information now by clicking here.

Applicants will need to prove fluency in English and Spanish, and will also receive a writing prompt along with additional instructions for the scholarship submission process via email. Recipients of the scholarship will be notified no later than April 1, 2018.

BEE is excited about this new scholarship offer that supports students in the medical field. Our organization continues to look for new ways to be part of the ongoing education process of New Mexico residents. Stay tuned for additional details.

Upcoming Fundraisers: BEE’s next planned fundraiser will take place January 2018 at Kelly Jo Designs By Wine, and will be followed by our annual bowling tournament April 7, 2018 at Isleta Fun Connection at the Isleta Resort & Casino.
